64%

= how much of my gross income was spent on deductible medical expenses last year.

That's gross income, not adjusted gross. And it's not counting the non-deductible costs (another $4,000+) involved in Project Spawn, as someone else I know calls it.

On the bright side, I guess I will meet the threshold (7.5% of adjusted gross) for itemizing medical expenses this year.

*laughs hysterically*

Yes, it's tax time again. Preparing tax returns + reliving all of last year's traumas + coming down with a cold = NOT the most uplifting week I've ever had.

Bills, mostly.

  1. Ah yes...that reminds of one time when I deducted our medical expenses and the accountant asked what was going on medically (as if it were her business). I told her we were doing IF treatments, and she proceeded to tell me about all of the people she knew who did treatments; including who was successful and who was not. Good times.

    1. Oh no -- that's horrifying! The woman who helped me raised her eyebrows pretty far, but then she saw (just glanced at) my three-page spreadsheet of expenses, saw that I wasn't making it up, and went on in a businesslike way, thank goodness.

  2. I'm sorry that you're having to go through all the reminders this week and not feeling well on top of it. I know we could have itemized my expenses for my loss last year, but neither one of us was willing to look through it all again. I know we should, but I just can't.

I hope you finish up quickly and can put those files away. Feel better soon!

    1. Then my sympathies are with you, too! Tax time is never the best part of my year, but this time it added insult to injury. I do feel better having it done and being able to put 2012 away in the filing cabinet, though.
